Founded as Drinking Decisions in 1978,  Prevention and Recovery Northwest was one of the first organizations in the country to offer treatment and rehabilitation services for those substance abusers and addicts involved in the corrections system.  Since then, Prevention and Recovery Northwest has motivated at least 30,000 clients from all walks of life to take a hard look at their behavior patterns, recognize the need to change, and take action to turn their lives around.  We tackle the challenges of substance abuse and dependency with evidence-based practices that combine the findings of scientific research with the experience of educators, physicians, and counselors.

We offer outpatient services to individuals, couples, and families.  Group treatment services include cognitive restructuring, relapse prevention, women’s specific, men’s specific, cognitive behavioral restructuring, dual diagnosis, family therapy, couples therapy, and aftercare.

Education groups are an introduction for our clients regarding the effects of alcohol and other drugs including information specific to intoxicated driving and other criminal activities associated with substance use.

Relapse prevention groups focus on triggers and prevention, cognitive skills and motivation for clients who have been through prior treatment or have had continued involvement in the legal system.

Women’s specific groups address the unique problems of women who need substance abuse treatment.  Frequently women involved in substance abuse treatment face issues related to co-dependency, incest, abuse, victimization, sexuality, and problems with significant others.

Men’s specific groups address issues that center around learning to express feelings, and learning new skills to resolve problems with intimacy, relationships and sexuality.

Methamphetamine specific group focuses on the specific needs of methamphetamine addicted clients.  In the groups clients have a safe environment in which to process issues specific to methamphetamine abuse and to practice the skills needed to establish long term recovery.

Family systems therapy sessions are designed to provide information and insight about the patterns, dynamics and roles that exist within the current family of the substance abuser as well as the family of origin.

Couples therapy sessions are conducted by a marriage and family therapist.  Both family therapy and couples therapy sessions are provided free of charge to the family members and friends of our clients.

Dual diagnosis treatment ensures that primary therapy can be focused on both the substance-related disorders and mental health disorders of the client.  Clinical staff closely monitors the progress of dual-diagnosis clients through clinical case reviews provided by our Mental Health Consultant.

Cognitive behavioral restructuring teaches individuals to reframe the problematic cognitions that cause him or her to react with behaviors and emotions that are not appropriate to the situation.
