The Education Group of the treatment program at Prevention and Recovery Northwest focuses on issues such as learning to set and achieve goals, and how to give and receive support and feedback.  Clients work together with counseling staff to develop skills in such areas as managing stress, grief, interpersonal communication, depression and anxiety, thinking errors, new interpersonal skills and developing support networks.

After assessment, each client is set up with an individual treatment plan to work on motivational issues like self-esteem, self-efficacy, learning to set and achieve goals, and how to give and receive support and feedback.  Participation in these groups helps clients increase their acceptance of addiction and to build a greater commitment to recovery, restoring their health, and rebuilding relationships.

Our Education groups are a mix of lectures, videos, discussions, small group activities and sharing of personal experiences. These groups are designed to educate clients on the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol, and legal issues surrounding these topics, and run a minimum of 6 weeks (12 hours).

Group therapy is one of the most common modes for treatment.  It gives clients the opportunity to see the progression of abuse and dependency in themselves and others; it also provides the opportunity to recognize the consequences of pro-social and anti-social behavior of other group members in an atmosphere of support and hope
